Program Outline and Course Descriptions

Lead Carpenter Training Wall Instruction: 49 clock hrs. 2 weeks

This course will enable the trainee to learn to properly install a door so that it opens and close with proper clearance, how to install a window, how to properly use a square and saw in order to kick out panels for placement along angled edges, the trainee will also learn to properly install Tyvek weatherization wrap, how to operate a mechanical brake in order to bend metal to form the flashing around windows and doors, how to properly install Azek trim materials, how to read blueprints and how to properly install James Hardies panels in accordance with best practices.

Window Installation – (Course 102 – 5 Clock Hours)

  1. Establish components of a window install
  2. Mathematics of a window install
  3. Tutorial demonstration
  4. Trainee installs window under guidance
  5. Trainee install window without assistance in timely fashion

Kick Out Station – (Course 103 – 5 Clock Hours)

  1. Establish criteria when a kick out is necessary
  2. Demonstrate proper use of a square to measure kick out area
  3. Demonstrate proper use of a saw to cut out the panel for kick out
  4. Trainee performs kick out under guidance
  5. Trainee performs kick out without assistance in timely fashion

James Hardie Installation – (Course 104 – 16 Clock Hours)

  1. Introduction to James Hardie products
  2. Class room review of James Hardie best practices installation methods
  3. Review of James Hardie best practices
  4. Trainee performs Hardie panel installs under guidance
  5. Trainee perfroms Hardie panel installs without assistance in timely fashion

Tyvek Weatherization – (Course 105 – 2 Clock Hours)

  1. Introduction to Tyvek weatherization product
  2. Class room review of Tyvek weatherization install procedures
  3. Trainee performs Tyvek weatherization install under guidance
  4. Trainee performs Tuyvek weatherization install without assistance in time fashion

Metal Bending/Brake Operation – (Course 106 – 4 Clock Hours)

  1. Introduction to a Brake press
  2. Detailed operational review of the components of a Brake press
  3. Tutorial demonstration on how to bend metal using a Brake press
  4. Trainee bends metal using the Brake under supervision
  5. Trainee bends metal without assistance in timely fashion

Azek Trim Installation – (Course 107 – 2 Clock Hours)

  1. Introduction to Azek trim materials
  2. Tutorial demonstration on how to properly install Azek product
  3. Trainee performs Azek product install under guidance
  4. Trainee performs Azek product install without assistance

Blueprint Reading – (Course 108 – 4 Clock Hours)

  1. Determining a plan, elevation or section views
  2. Read blueprints in relation to show specific sizes, location, and relationships among all materials to scale
  3. Read blueprints to determine the components of the building envelope

OSI Caulking Application – (Course 109 – 2 Clock Hours)

  1. Review application scenarios and best practices of OSI caulking
  2. Trainee to apply OSI caulking to various trim and panel installs per best practices
